#1000wordsofsummer 2023, Day Six

As managing editor of Tuxedo Cat Press, Charlotte clearly has complete confidence in TCP’s leading author

Nearly 1,100 words tonight. The biggest issue is going to be weaving all this new material into the existing book. But at least the material finally exists. That’s a big deal. So grateful to Jami Attenberg and the #1000wordsofsummer challenge for getting me moving on this!

Tomorrow is Friday. I wish the upcoming weekend meant I’d have tons of time to write and think. Alas, this is not real life. Even if I didn’t need to clean the house and clean out the car and run errands and do the billable work I didn’t do this week, my younger sister’s impending business trip would be kicking the crap out of my weekend since it means I have to take dinner to Mom both Saturday and Sunday. (Normally, I just do Sunday.) This means shopping and cooking earlier than I normally would, plus spending chunks of time at Mom’s on both evenings instead of just one. Luckily, my older sister arranged for one of Mom’s caregivers to stay over Saturday night, so at least Ned and I don’t need to pack up food, meds, beds, and litter boxes so we can stay over. (Normally, my younger sister stays Saturday night, but she never bothered to arrange for someone to fill in while she’s gone. Since Mom isn’t a fan of cats, she wasn’t excited about having Ned as a houseguest even though he’s an indisputable sweetheart, so comparatively speaking, it’s a happy ending.)

Regardless, the challenge is on track. One of the best things about #1000wordsofsummer is that I’m more inclined to carve out writing time in the midst of all this nonsense than I would otherwise so I can hit my 1000-word goal each day. I don’t know if this means I’ll be able to finish Draft #3 by the end of the month, but there’s a decent chance–and that’s a whole lot better chance than I’d have had if it weren’t for #1000wordsofsummer.
