#1000wordsofsummer 2023, Day Three

Sleepy Danny

One advantage of this challenge is that it forces me to do more than I would have done.

Take tonight, for instance. I’m exhausted. All I want to do is administer cat meds and bedtime snacks and go to bed myself. But before I could translate that urge into reality, I recognized that I hadn’t yet written my 1,000 words.

I could have skipped it. Nobody would have thought less of me. After all, I’m post-operative. But I’d have known. Also, I’d have had to admit it to you, and while I know you won’t judge, I didn’t want to admit that I fell down on the job this soon.

So I wrote my thousand words (1,001, actually). It feels good to have done it. Not virtuous, but there’s a definite sense of accomplishment.

Now, I can take care of the cats and get to bed. To all a good night!
