Pleased to report that I’m off to a decent start.
Granted, I didn’t get to write until I got home from Mom’s. The earlier parts of the day consisted of church, stopping by the farm stand for veggies and blueberries, cooking stuff to take to Mom (meat loaf and mashed potatoes), paying bills, going to Mom’s, and dealing with house stuff when I got home. Finally, though, I settled in to rest, relax, and watch the rest of a documentary about the marvelous Judy Blume. Listening to this wonderfully creative person talk about her books—including the ignorant people who try to ban them for talking about sex (gasp!)—and who kept writing anyway—this inspired me to get back to work.
So tonight, when I could legitimately have taken a break, I chose instead to spend a couple hours editing, moving forward, cutting and rearranging so things would at least come close to making sense. (Thanks, Judy!) I’m tired enough that I didn’t feel ready to tackle entirely new material, but I did substitute some new stuff for some old stuff. I figure that counts.
I have no idea how far I’ll get with this fourteen-day challenge, but I’m hopeful. Many people here in the U.S. are taking off from work tomorrow and Tuesday in celebration of Independence Day, but since I’m a self-employed person who needs money, I’ll be working, which means no more marathons like yesterday for the foreseeable future. On the other hand, I also plan to write because as we know, the circumstances will never be perfect. I just have to write anyway.
Here goes!
Congratulations on sticking to the plan in the midst of all the curveballs. I’ve been told that it takes 21 days to build a habit, so you are almost there!

My unofficial one: fourteen straight days working on the book. One down, 13 to go.
